Employee Spotlight: Tom Keene Shares His Story to Support Mental Health Awareness
We are incredibly proud to highlight our colleague Tom Keene, who has recently taken part in an important mental health initiative led by Tottenham Hotspur, in collaboration with the Samaritans.
Earlier this month, Spurs announced a new campaign aimed at encouraging people to talk openly when they are going through a difficult period and to seek help rather than suffering in silence. As part of the initiative, supporters were invited to share personal experiences, with the intention that some stories might be read aloud on an official podcast to help others feel less alone.
Tom chose to submit his own story, reflecting on the loss of his father last year and the journey of coping with grief. His motivation was simple but powerful: to offer reassurance to anyone experiencing similar loss, particularly those at an earlier stage of that journey, and to show that while the process is difficult, things can and do gradually get better.
What Tom did not expect was what happened next.
The Spurs team were so moved by his story that they invited him to take part directly in the podcast as a guest, rather than simply reading his words aloud. Stepping well outside his comfort zone, Tom agreed to join a panel discussion focused on the importance of reaching out, speaking to others, and acknowledging when we are struggling.
The episode was recorded last week and is now live on Tottenham Hotspur’s official YouTube channel. The discussion is honest, emotive, and at times challenging, featuring deeply personal experiences from those involved. While it is not always an easy watch, it is a powerful reminder of how important open conversations around mental health truly are and how much impact sharing a story can have.
Tom’s willingness to speak so openly about his experience demonstrates courage, empathy, and a genuine desire to help others. We are proud to have him as part of our team and to see him contributing to such a meaningful cause beyond the workplace.
We commend Tom for using his voice to support others and for helping to reinforce an essential message: it’s good to talk, and you don’t have to go through difficult times alone.
